This just doesn't hit quite as often as Dirt.

Any given moment it can feel like X song is as good as anything on Dirt or JoF, but then the next song plays and it doesn't seem to hold those highs. It's an atmosphere thing, maybe. More raw, less cohesive.

That said, We Die young goes every bit as hard as everything on Dirt, Like a nice combo of Them Bones and Dam That River.

First four tracks are phenomenal, it’s hit or miss after that. Bleed the Freak is fucking killer man

Bleed the Freak and We Die Young are Alice at their best. They’re better metal bangers than what most of the actual metal bands were doing at the time.

I’ve always been so close to 5’ing this, as I actually prefer to listen to this than Dirt. However, undeniably there are a few weaklings here. This has higher highs than Dirt, dirt is just more consistent.

Given the first 4 songs, the rest of the album could be the sound of a dog shitting and it’d still warrant at least a 4 rating

It's also the significantly less depressing option compared to Dirt, lol (still plenty of doom and gloom in there, but yeah)

No doubt. More than anything, I’m a metal guy more than grunge so that speaks for itself. Dirt definitely had a few hitters though.

Yeah I've said before this album is almost..upbeat at points? A few songs here are quite Motley Crue like to my ears haha

Definitely has a bit of a glam hangover at points

can 100% hear the glam, hard rock, and funk riffs so definitely a product of its time. Maybe songs on this were written at different times for the band, you could arguably remove 2-3 tracks off it and make it a bit more consistent

doesn't make it bad of course

Yeah honestly I’m surprised the funk metal influence doesn’t get spoken about more. It’s pretty blatant on tracks like Man In The Box.
