i will agree that nepenthe and haxprocess are "adventurous" but they're just boring to my ears.
it's like an adventure that takes you nowhere. the kind of pointless adventure that would only be fun if you were high.

Get high then

I agree about Nepenthe but I still like it. Also Famine has tons of cool sections that're really surprising

Hey it takes time. Took me two years after this came out to finally start enjoying after resenting it for so long cause of the change in style

i agree that things take time talons, but i bought this when it came out and have listened to it countless times ever since. i was the guy telling my friends when it came out "dudes lets just give it some time, it will grow"

I find those two songs to be some of the most interesting music in Opeth's discog.

They're among the most dynamic songs on here. Especially that jazzy solo midway through Nepenthe

Nice to see I'm not the only one who digs Famine. I feel it compliments Haxprocess well.

"Throwback" music can still be musically adventurous. Arguably more so than continuing a more contemporary sound that has already been done to death by the band.
Hahahaha I think they're more or less the same. It's like Throwback is rehash and following your given path is stagnation. Truthfully though, tell me you love Opeth more before this album?
|
| |
Well for me hearing a band doing something that could be labelled as 'throwback' and thus adopting a sound they haven't done before is far more interesting than producing yet more variations of a sound they've been playing throughout their career.
I prefer Opeth's first 3 albums to this (Orchid only just though) but I enjoy this more than everything that came after My Arms, Your Hearse.

Theres nothing more Opeth could have done with their trademark prog/death style. It would just have been Watershed part 2

ugh i hate when the argument comes to this point. i never said i wanted more prog/death. i just want something good. i couldn't care less what direction they choose, just make a good album
