excuse my writing I'm from Spain!
The fluidity of the music of The Mantle is probably one of the best attributes of this album, from the beginning, where it seems that the totem animal of moose observed the distant line drawn by the almost shy riffs instrumental introduction, The Mantle leads for introspective decline of almost 70 minutes, interspersed with a primitive savagery moments crying a heartbroken hymn of hopelessness for our world and our species.

With an impressive array of textures and auditory sensations, thanks to his many musical influences, The Mantle is a great musical ouroboros, a circle that seems to want to reflect in itself the cycle of life, death and rebirth, and thus make a claim artistic roars through the prickly John Haughm, and come face to face with our disconnection from the natural world with our modern life, you can not replace even a fraction of the spiritual void that we bring to our actions.

Didn't he consider Death to be a metal band and not necessarily dm?

I guess that was kind of Chuck's mentality. but that came from a quote and is taken a little bit out of context...his main point in saying that was that he just wanted to make good music/metal. at the end of the day he was a just a really big heavy metal fan and wasn't necessarily looking to offshoot dm as it's own genre.

but whether he wants the credit or not, he gets a lot of it.

thrash is definitely the worst genre in modern metal, or ar least the most stagnant. my favourite metal album is thrash though so that says something about the old stuff

i don't like modern metal that much anyways, but there's enough thrash in the 80's and 90's to last a lifetime.
