this is their best record so they're not that good.
William Basinski on the other hand.. whoosh.

But seriously I want The National to mean something to everyone I know.
I tried to introduce them to one of my friends, he stared at me and said "The fuck were you thinking? This is fucking terrible, how can you give this a 4.5?"
He wasn't kidding, he now has a passionate hate of this band.

But Boxer is the best thing ever.
I enjoy William Basinski quite a bit, though I would never compare him with The National. The National make music with individual instrumental parts culminating to form a whole sound that is focused around a melody. William Basinski deals with repetition, the texture of tape, aleatoric change.

Personally I find this to be better then boxer, but they're very close.
Still, I have no idea why he expressed such hatred at the song I showed him (Little Faith). Hey, you can dislike it, that's fine, but calling it "fucking terrible" is just plain wrong.

Haha, really? I can see somebody not enjoying them, but if anything I would see the distaste stemming from them finding the band boring. Oh well. Whenever I try to explain my love for them to friends, it comes out awful.

And I can see this being better than Boxer, it does feature a wider range of song styles and techniques. I just have a really intense connection with Boxer on a personal level, the melodies and Berninger's lyrics really strike a chord with me.

He didn't find them boring, he just hated the sound in general.
Yeah, I've had that happen.
Edit: That I can understand, I've seriously been thinking of bumping Boxer to a 5 just because the ideas it presents have hit me hard recently.

This album just hasn't clicked with me. I enjoy it while its on but I never really feel compelled to listen to it. Just seems a bit dull. Then again I was never really a big fan, except for Boxer

I think the same thing, then someone tells me how they love a certain song and I want to listen to it again.

The thing with The National is that there isn't one song by them I don't enjoy.
