All DT is a little too wanky, but in the earlier records it worked. Myung is the man though, his lyrics are always the fucking bomb.

But yeah actually add Surrounded to the list of best songs here, that shit rules.

True actually, the good parts of Time and Met slay another day (and I actually prefer Wait for Sleep to all three)

Metropolis pt. 2 is even better though

but i'd say Awake is an excellent point to start with DT

I'd say it's a terrible point to start; it had to grow on me over a while (everything else from DT has been pretty instantaneous though)
Met 2 is their 2nd best, but it's too cheesy and wanky in places

well for certain people it may be a terrible point to start but for Night seriously i think it's the best to start with

"Met 2 is their 2nd best, but it's too cheesy and wanky in places"

yeah well, DT has always been kinda cheesy and wanky but i just fell in love with the flow of Met 2. it's just the point where DT does fucking everything right imo

I reckon that the vocals on Met. Pt. 2 are way weaker than on Awake and Images. Understandably, of course, but it still puts it a bit below these two imo. Also, the lyrics were absolutely terrible in places (read: where LaBrie and Portnoy wrote them).

for the vocal performance, Awake > Met 2 > I&W imo

agreed with what you said about the lyrics, LaBrie and Portnoy are both pretty poor to write them. it doesn't really disturb me on the album though, the concept is superb

Agreed that the concept is great but that's mostly thanks to Petrucci, cos he came up with it on Met. Pt. 1. He and Myung write great lyrics on that album but Labrie and Portnoy have pretty much always been terrible at it imo, and it shows on Scenes.

Also, you think LaBrie was better on Scenes and I&W? Really? Interesting opinion man.

Sorry, I meant to say, you think LaBrie was better on Scenes THAN I&W. As in, you prefer the vox on Scenes to the ones on this, correct?

@Rowan: tbh yes, objectively i think they are a tad better on I&W than Scenes but i have a really soft spot on Scenes

That's fair enough I suppose. This is still my favourite I think cos it's so solid, Awake and Scenes for me have a couple bad songs each though they're not far behind at all.

Good review, just make sure you spell check before you submit. That stuff really irks me especially when it's an easy fix. Other than that pos'd
