Hahaha. I personally prefer Animals and Wish You Were Here (I have them both 5'd) but this is an incredible album no doubt. Like Jethro I'll see what I can do.

In the 70s, every new prog release was received as a treat. DSOTM was just one of many. And as we know it, a masterpiece of prog takes couple of weeks to digest. So yes, people had no particular reaction when album came out back in 1973.
