It's weird. Technically I don't think Mess is a great screamer, especially on the old albums. His screams on DBM for example sound very weak and raspy. For some reason though, I wouldn't have it any other way.

yup, followed by AP. seriously his range is incredible on that album. on I he stays pretty monotone, raspy kinda weak but it works since on this album him and jonny are usually going at the same time.

yeah jon did all of his vocals in one take and whatnot and he was at his best there

i wish they would just stop working with vocalists other than mess when it's clear swan/mess/mingus is the core anyway

and for a song maybe travis was a guest vocalist or something. mingues doesn't get enough love

this will always be their definitive release for me tho tbh. it's so consistent.

as dgd i love the rotating members thing they have going, they sound rejuvenated every album

that's a good point. Tillian (as he was on AS, i do know he can do much better) wasn't up to where i think kurt was. It works for them as long as their singers are good, otherwise they just take away from swan/mess/mingus. AS still ruled though

im still not sure whether i blame til or the dude behind the boards for that but ya agreed

dude behind the boards definitely. tillian is a great singer. but they should have had kris produce that album like their others. he just sounded all wonky
