I see the argument where Mono doesn't really do anything new, but I don't really look for originality much in post-rock. I look for soundscapes. It doesn't have to be original, it just has to make me feel something.
Mogwai's 'Young Team' is more overrated than this.

okay sure
tell me another band that does post-rock with a massive orchestra like Mono do
whether the ideas are original or not the fact is this is damn near executed perfectly so why change things for the sake of changing them when music this wonderful is possible with existing ideas
i mean really

The murky production kills the album's beauty for me. I don't have an issue with its originality / songwriting quality.

Young Team is one of the best post-rock albums period. Possibly only behind Spiderland and Slow Riot.

useless to compare post rock bands to each other. i mean godspeed kind of fucked that up for everyone. its a battle for second place, ya know? and no one really watches the NIT

yeah i have to admit ranking and comparing post rock bands is silly
|
| |
godspeed is totally not the be all end all of post rock. like they're awesome yeah and they're arguably my favorite post rock band but the key word there is arguably
then again i don't really listen to that much post rock so yeah

mogwai is a completely different mood to mono though
and mono is a completely different mood to godspeed
and godspeed is a completely different mood to mogwai
etc.
so i see no use in ranking them because they all fill different niches and moods :]
|
| |
i can agree with that

I don't call many albums gay, but when I do, I make it Hymn To The Immortal Wind.
This album is gay.
