Normally, yes he does... But Gengar is an exception to that rule

I only still listen to two songs off of this. Bleak and the title track
Not listening to The Leper Affinity and loving every second of it shows that you fail. :thumb:

Agreed, but than again when I think long and hard about it, every song is amazing on here...........especially Dirge for November which makes me cry in the moonlight sometimes.

Okay, I'm gonna try and explain myself...I DO NOT get what the hype is with this band. I am not saying they're not as great as everyone says, but I bought Blackwater Park (seemed like the best place to start) over a year ago and it just does not grab me. However, I do not give up on bands very easily (especially when they come so highly recommended), so does anyone have a better/alternative starting place for these guys? I really am not very nitpicky with music but I clearly (hopefully) am missing something...

I'd get MAYH, that's my favourite from them, maybe you're like me and will really get that album. I fully agree with your view on this though, really underwhelming, the last track is the only excellent one here.

The problem with Opeth is that there is no filler tracks on their albums. And their weak tracks are above average compared to other bands. And their great songs are light years ahead of other bands.
Anything less than a 4 is a shame.

Um...the problem with Opeth is that they oftentimes makes overly drawn out songs that really aren't treading on much new ground then the first ten minutes, but feels long just because it's long. None of th tracks on this album are filler, but many of the tracks have filler.

I get your point, will, but I believe the only song on here that may have some filler is Dirge, I feel it is just a little long in the intro and outro...everything else is perfect. The interlude in the title track is part of what makes it the best Opeth song ever imo, beside having one of the most intense motherfucking climaxes ever.

probably is.

I cant think of many albums better than this. The only ones that compare in my opinion are Ride the Lightning by Metallica, Hatebreeder by Children of Bodom, Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche, and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence by Dream Theater.
But I will admit that none come close to this album's unique, groundbreaking emotion and deliverance. This Message Edited On 05.13.08

You sound just like me mentioning those first two albums and this one

Damn bf, I love all of those albums, Hatebreeder and Operation Mindcrime are also 5/5s from me, only have 10 of them.
The only album definitely better than this imo, is Still Life. Possibly Bath as well, but that's it. Back to Times of Splendor is definitely up there as well, along with Metropolis Part 2 for my top 5 albums of all time.

Just say this, Opeth is one of the best artist's ever!

This is where Opeth perfected their sound, with the trademark ebow lines singin in the background and the thick atmospheres. Even so, Still Life was just better written IMO.
