don't think there's another metal album that can come close to touching this honestly

Guy Man - spot on summary

Artuma I agree it is great. But I like the breaks you get in Isis CoL and Neurosis - there are passages where there is some calm in the vocals and they feel perfect. Some respite before further onslaught, I just really enjoy that rhythm and fluctuation. I think that’s why I’m enjoying the new direction seen in Utopioid. The cleans may be indistinct and smothered by the production but I like the overall impact it has on the atmosphere and pacing.

As a genre it generally hits the sweet spot for me. Discovering Neurosis and especially the sun that never sets and eye of every storm - that’s a listening experience beyond a listening experience. Some easy 5.0’s for me. They were my first post metal band I heard and remain at the top for me.

CoL bring the apocalypse with their vox

Strangely I find CoL a relaxing listening experience. It’s like wave after wave that reaches so deep that I am left with a deep sense of calm. Maybe it’s more their music, the density and mastery of atmosphere that invokes this deep emotional state that I relate to being calm - or maybe it’s just exhaustion! Either way, CoL can take me places that Rosetta just can’t quite reach. As much as I have been increasingly enjoying Rosetta of Late, albums like Salvation exist on another level entirely.

I remember someone complaining about the lack of clean vox in CoL’s music (lol), but yeah they bring the ambience when they want to - Salvation especially.

It’s always seems to be a contentious issue - clean vox in post metal. CoL do it sparingly but when they do it, it works. I am enjoying the clean vox in recent Rosetta releases.
CoL really are the masters of ambience - the calm and the storm done to perfection.

Probably my favorite atmosphere/overall feel from a metal album ever. This'll never be topped, by them or any other outfit. Wake/Lift rules too though.

It's been a while, but this and Determinism have always been my favourite albums by these guys.

can't go wrong with any of the first three.
even the EPs they showed up on during this era were godlike. And that Homesick cover holy fuck - I was finally vindicated for saying that Disintegration-era The Cure were basically the heaviest thing ever.

When this album gets a comment Guyman phone goes off, a bat signal glows in the sky and smoke signals rise into the atmosphere ...
