It just seems like Mark's rock roots took over after this. The songs became a lot less interesting to me, at the expense of success for the band.
It wasn't all bad. I think Sacrament is a great follow-up to this, some really great stuff on there. Wrath has good stuff too, my favorite LoG riff is in Desolation etc. But overall, for me, they lost their mojo a bit after this.

i didn’t like Sacrament at all tbh. it blew its load with Walk With Me and was all downhill from there. Wrath had a couple good songs. after that i totally fell off. it sucks cause their first few had some really great riffs

Sacrament rulez.

Their first 4 are very good but they stopped bringing the juicy riffs after that.
Sturm was a bit of a resurgence though... I'm pulling this out of thin air but I do think the stuff the band went through with that fan dying and the court case reignited some spark for a little bit at least.

I still say 512 was an incredible song - ad Resurrection man and Ditch and those are pretty much all I need from the last ten years of LoG.

caught the log/mastodon tour last night m/ don't love either of this album or leviathan but it was fun anyway. the sky opened up right as they ended Now You've Got Something to Die For and we all got drenched.

Went to the Raleigh show on Saturday. Kerry King's band was so lame that they had to pull out Reigning Blood to get the crowd going. Mastodon were fine but the mix was terrible if you weren't in the middle so everything sounded way too bass-heavy with the vocals being non-existent.
It was my 3rd time seeing LoG and while I thought they put on a decent show, it just didn't hit me like it had previously. I commented to my buddy who I was with that I suddenly felt too old to be at a metal show. I just couldn't mirror the vibe. It was cool to hear Randy throw out a bunch of NC towns off the top of his head though. And he still destroys on vocals, I don't know how he's maintained it for so long.

yeah KK Slayer played mostly mid-paced thrash. i mean good for him for still thrashing at 60, but still.
