Surprised at how little folk influence is on this compared to so many acoustic sections of other Opeth songs. Only song
which clicked for me was Windowpane and the others are still meh after multiple listens

You rule too Pleb.
And yeah, interesting story JT. Orchid and MR would qualify as growers for me, since I didn't understand them on first listen (or MAYH for that matter). Only recently has it dawned on me how groundbreaking this band really was.

They just took what EoS did and made it proggier

I'm 21 so you're not that far off. I started getting into Opeth when I was like 13 so it's still quite a long time ago even though I'm not as old as that post might have made me sound.

if i listened to opeth when i was 13 i would have been around for the release of Blackwater Park, damn. instead i didn't first hear them for another 7 or so years

Yeah. In fact when I first heard these guys I disliked them.
And I was already doing my BA when I finally got into these guys.

Really? In absentia was the first album I can remember that pushed me to explore heavier sounds all those years ago...

Some of the stuff from On The Sunday Of Life was probably the worst stuff from PT
