Devil and God, Daisy, and this are all pretty much equal for me but any time I stop and really think about it I usually wind up listening to this.

^ same here, but also that is likely because I have listened to devil and daisy probably 10x more than this over the years considering how much longer they were out for and Brand New was treated near religiously for me in high school

I’m not gonna say same, I only got into the band when i was in college after thinking anything emo was lame for most of my teens (I was so wrong), but yeah I had a solid year before this dropped with the rest of their records. But I’ve spun this probably as much as the rest at this point.

Very difficult to rank brand new’s discography. My favorite was Devil and god for awhile, then I listened to Deja Entendu the most, sci fi was my favorite for years and recently I’ve been digging Daisy the most. Incredibly consistent band. Overall, I think sci fi is probably their “best”, most fully realized album.

My ranking is pretty indisputably TDAG > Daisy > SF > Deja > YFW. There was a time when SF and Daisy were tied, but over the years SF's mellowness hasn't held up quite as well as Daisy's creepy and abrasive atmosphere. TDAG remains their best blend of lyrics/intensity/melody, Deja is mostly just nostalgic/catchy but doesn't do much for me anymore, and YFW is the same thing just far less mature musically/lyrically etc.

this is really the only brand new album i still listen to now and again and it happens probably like 3-5 times a year. daisy i could prob still jam too but this has the bump of being the only one i lived real time. all around think tdags holes have become very very visible overtime and its like 3rd ish

I have settled with just accepting TDAG = Daisy = SF > YFW > Deja. I don't care to try to rank TDAG, Daisy and SF, they are all perfect in their own ways. Deja for whatever reason has aged like milk for me, while YFW is a solid fun release.
@Sowing you hit the nail on the head with Daisy being creepy and abrasive, but I am not sure I would simply call SF 'mellow'. SF feels very eerie in its own 'mellow', less-abrasive way.

Yeah no question SF is eerie in its own right, and I love its overall vibe. It's a 5 just like Daisy and TDAG in my book. However, I feel it could have overtaken Daisy in my ranking if it had a little more aggression at certain points. For instance, the end of No Control could have launched into full blown chaos but intentionally pulls back. I get that it's an artistic decision and I have no qualms with how they wrote SF, but my personal preference leans towards something a little more unhinged...like Daisy.

yeah daisy really sticks out in their discog. love the aggression on that and the little twang it has. my favorite lacey performance.

Remember really enjoying this album when it first came out. Total bore fest of an album now. The Devil and God is still easily their best album going through it again. AMAZING

Daisy has definitely taken the lead over this for me. This is still amazing and gorgeous and haunting, but it just doesn't feel as urgent or essential.
TDAG > DAISY > SF > DEJA > YFW
