Even if the already named tracks were sequenced alphabetically by coincidence and then the couple not old ass songs named accordingly to fit, that doesn’t change the fact that the sequencing is terrible lmao

The alphabetical thing just makes it appear even more haphazard than it sounds

agree to disagree because I think it flows near-perfectly

I’ve probably said this a million times but burn the witch into daydreaming as the opening to this album is one of the most questionable song sequencing choices in music history and having the numbers through true love all sandwiches together turns them into an indistinguishable blob that does nothing but neuter the emotional impact of all four songs and devalues their individual merits

I do think BTW into Daydreaming is open to criticism, even if I quite like it, but I think Decks Dark complements Daydreaming perfectly as a follow-up. I can potentially see why the run from Numbers to True Love Waits would be seem as kind of shapeless but I think each individual moment is so strong that it negates that, particularly Present Tense.

Daydreaming is the only track that I don’t realllllly like. Hugely underrated album within their discography

And true love waits tbh, but I’m not a fan of most album closers in general

Daydreaming into decks dark is fine, burn the witch sets the wrong tone and should be removed from the album entirely because not only does it not fit the vibe no matter what you do with it, it’s also just one of the worst Radiohead songs ever. That track would have been better off left as a single forever.

I guess the numbers to true love run success hinges on how great you think the songs are separately. None of them are bad, but I don’t think any of them are great enough on their own to negate the poor sequencing. They are all middling Radiohead material. However, if they were broken up a bit with some songs with a spot of tension to release, I’d probably like them better. But if someone who even loves all those tracks can see that them being lumped like that is shapeless, that doesn’t exactly imply great sequencing choices.

Honestly there is a part of me that kind of appreciates that they may have just slapped these songs together in alphabetical order. If you’re gonna release a bunch of decade old songs under the guise of a new album why even bother pretending it was built with even a semblance of structural, conceptual, or narrative cohesion. At least in that instance they aren’t pretending this isn’t the lowest effort album of their career.

Fans only have themselves to blame after all. Radiohead did King of Limbs and everyone bitched and moaned that they were evolving as a band so they just slapped together a bunch of old bullshit in alphabetical order and everyone ate it right up 😂

Now instead of new material we getting shit like Kid Amnesiac, the terrible fuckin c-sides of kid a

Idk if this album is a reaction to the muted fan response to TKOL, I never got the impression the band were heavily influenced by their fans.

If you wanted you could say the same of HTTT, that album wasn't as beloved as the previous 4 and then they put out In Rainbows, which did include live favourites they'd been playing for years.

Which would then be an argument that it is, in fact, better when they conceal their laziness with thoughtful sequencing

Refining their songs in a live setting before picking the right time to release is something they've always done, I don't think it's lazy. The quality of sequencing is totally down to personal preference but this is something loads of bands do, and for good reason.

The only really old song on AMSP is True Love Waits, most of the others (except BTW) were songs they were road testing on TKOL's tour. And True Love Waits' inclusion feels less like a "we finally refined it enough to record a studio version" moment and more of a direct response to Thom's personal circumstances at the time, considering the significance that song originally held.

Lots of bands sequence their songs in alphabetical order even though it makes no sense? Name three

I was referring to bands testing out songs in a live setting before recording them, whether that's on their next album or in a few albums' time
