fwiw, okc is still above in rainbows on the all time charts just due to the sheer volume of votes
feels kinda weird seeing it solidly above kid a tho, even if i've always thought in rainbows was the best of the three

maybe when I'm stroking my grey(er) beard in 2054, I can finally enjoy the delights of Kid A's supremacy atop the charts of RYM / *insert alternative website*

we will see how 'In Rainbows' stands up when all Radiohead feels 'very very old' I guess, give it another 10-15 years
'fwiw, okc is still above in rainbows on the all time charts just due to the sheer volume of votes'
by being 'the best album of all time' on the site like it was for such a time it then invites everyone to vote on it so you will see a rating drop as 'the less likely to enjoy' feel duty bound - 'In Rainbows' would also find the crown weighs heavy, though saying that...
'To Pimp a Butterfly' is such a weird choice for best album ever, it's decent but not really even in the best era of hip hop, surely it's a matter of time before it drops a shade? Would just think people are bored of Kendrick a little, never see his albums bumped here really, just feels things have moved on
watching some of his performance on TV from Glastonbury (last year? can't remember, maybe year before) killed his appeal a tiny bit for me - looked more like a fashion catwalk than anything else, manicured to fuck, any energy on record didn't translate, looked a rinse and repeat chore

in rainbows today is roughly as old today as okc was when i first discovered radiohead (roughly 17 years old at the time) and i can say without a shadow of a doubt in rainbows feels more contemporary/"fresh" today than okc did to me in 2014, let alone now.
in rainbows feels like something that could've came out today still, very much has that sorta bedroom quality that is so in vogue right now and i think is why it resonates with rym zoomers (the same userbase that has pushed blonde and igor into top 50 all time) so much more than okc. bodysnatchers is the only thing i feel really dates it to 2007, while evert second of okc is drenched in y2k dread that it's hard not to think of that album as "old" if you weren't around for all that
(would also extrapolate this to explain rym's infatuation with a moon shaped pool)

TPaB was really meaningful and important to me because it was the first time I, a really white boy, was exposed to an intelligent reflection on race from a black man. That's probably pretty cringe and not what Kendrick wants, but it genuinely forced me into some thoughts I wouldn't have had without it and it'll always be a classic in my eyes

I respect the opinions :-) OKC was the first Radiohead album I heard, so maybe there's nostalgia lumped on top there, but to me the quality of the songs on that album are almost uniformly 5/5. Here, there's some dips. I'd put this more on par with AMSP as the 2nd tier to OKC/Kid A which is 1st tier. But I don't want to have a "radiohead ranked" moment incoming.

Overall, we're very lucky to have these 2 great albums, which just deliver different flavors at a very high quality. OKC is more thought-provoking and a downer, really, while In Ranbows is smoother & more comforting. The preference boils down to whether you're more of a Lars von Trier or a Wes Anderson fan.

OkC is my favorite album by anyone but IR is a close second. I can kinda see why that one’s resonating most with people in recent years. It’s more modern sounding and their most inviting, romantic, and warm.

'their most inviting, romantic, and warm.'
Always seen it as their 'The Bends' for a new generation ('inviting, romantic, and warm' is pretty much how I'd label 'The Bends' too) - it's no way as obviously themed and unified as 'Computer' or 'Kid A'...maybe not even 'Amnesiac' or 'Moon Shaped'
It's more a collection of mostly excellent tracks that sound good together. 'Jigswaw', 'Nude', 'House of Cards' and 'Bodysnatchers' could have fit 'The Bends' with the production choices of the day replacing those on the album - similar vibe and song writing really.

Yep I always thought of the Bends as a record with lots of potential singles and In Rainbows kinda tracks like that as well
