Tropes carry a readymade set of benefits of pitfalls and bands who play em should be criticised for how well they do or don't incorporate these. Idk where you got the implication that just playing the tropes=free pass from my argument that defending the tropes against innovation every. single. time. is boring and unhelpful, and I don't think the way this band plays them is entirely flattering (but as stated, have heard far worse this yr alone)
Fwiw I went into this having only heard Full Tilt (which i fw and upvoted when someone picked it for the sput music league) and with the awareness that sput core hype does occasionally get it very right, as per Static Dress and Frontierer. Demon probably enjoys a hair more from the genre bandwagon than I do, per Radical, and I'm usually curious to hear the records that end up landmarking the yr for this site just to follow what's happening. I don't think I've seen a single person have a go at anyone itt for liking this album (am not rereading to confirm this lol), and excepting that, being told to stay out of other people's hypetrains is p much its own form of gatekeeping
