Just now realizing how great Thanks Nobuo is. Such tight writing and performances, that track is really on point the entire way thru

nobody hates periphery more than periphery fans the same way nobody hates star wars more than star wars fans

“The only explanation for hating a talented band as much as Sputnik staff hates periphery is that they‘re [not so secretly] obsessed with them”
Yeah dude that’s the *only* explanation 🙄

watched the making of doc for this album because why wouldn't i
my main takeaway was this is the first album they ever made where they didn't have all the songs completely fleshed out when they began recording and kinda winged a good chunk of it, and is also the first time spencer was actually present/contributing to the songwriting and arrangements outside of just his vocals/lyrics... and i think both those things are very apparent listening to this album.
aside from that misha has a nice ass place and they all play a fuck ton of videos games

I honestly do like the improv approach to a lot of these songs but they could've been tighter.

That break in Wax Wings fuckin blows when the song has been an absolute vibe up until that point. They love throwin in those garb breaks that just ruin the flow….shoulda kept er goin, or just end the song

The breaks are nice to help build the final crescendo. It's like a sort of post rock crescendocore influence and I like it.

"crescendocore" *shudders*

Post-rock influence is almost always a yes from me. Love the atmospherics and the buildups.
Side note: Everything Is Fine is finally growing on me. That end breakdown is unhinged.

Don't disagree just the use of the word "crescendocore" is something.

Froggin bullfish is so froggin good, shame Spencer didn’t write it in a way that could be pulled off live

I really miss tracks like Froggin Bullfish and Mile Zero honestly, the newer shit and this record especially is so much less melodically interesting to me and it's easy to get lost in just general chuggida chuggida reeeeee chuggida chuggida chuggida reeeeeeee which is exactly what does ~not~ interest me about djent.

damn fr i feel like this is the most melodically interesting album they've made, but agree that the heavier material is a lot more stereotypically-djent than it's been in a while and therefore just slightly dull
wildfire and zagreus are still my fave tracks here but stuff like everything is fine and dracul gras would be at the the bottom of my ranking at this point
