Yep random qUiRkY genre change-ups are one of the most obnoxious tricks in the prog handbook and their scarcity on this album is one of its biggest boons

I feel like when a prog band wants to do sudden genre change ups the rest of the music has to be frantic enough to make those quick adjustments pop out (see: Mr. Bungle and TDEP). Honestly the biggest knock against this for me is that the rest of the riffs aren't crazy enough to make the genre mashups sound surprising

Not necessarily. See also, Twelve Foot Ninja.

this album would absolutely be a 4.5 for me, if the last song actually ended with a white walls-esque epic solo. but instead they chose to just repeat that opening lick a zillion times on different instruments. The Grid had an incredible solo to end Automata, and im not a big fan of swim to the moon or silent flight parliament. I get it, they wanted to do something slightly different than Colors, but there is. no clear cut "must learn" guitar solo on this album

Most of what people shit on when it comes to this band like the random bluegrass/polka parts, are part of why I love BTBAM so much.

Album s pretty awesome for what it aims to be (cheeseless townsend with jazzy leanings). Kinda agree with Yowi, but the highs are settling very high on me. You guys keep following that twat. You ll get a pre decent exp electro library. Ugh

Fandango hasn't reviewed a btbam album since parallax so its probably safe to assume he won't review this one

If he were to review it , he'd definitely shit all over it.

Fantano in general has pretty shit takes on metal and prog anyways so it's probably for the best that he doesn't review it.

"the bluegrass bit in that song is soooo annoying"
they pull it off thou
"I get it, they wanted to do something slightly different than Colors, but there is. no clear cut "must learn" guitar solo on this album"
pretty sure if they did the solo, ppl also would be shittin on em. its a fight they never could win in the first place

the occasional bluegrass inclusion is far from the biggest issue with this band's sound
|

u mean far from YOUR biggest issue zillaboyo

The goofy shit is why many people didn't like prehistory but is exactly why I love it. That and the reprisals from Future Shock and Fix the Error.
