Charli has always been a bit niche (for a pop star). I think this last album was her attempt to breach the upper limits of that appeal. I think she has a ferociously loyal fanbase but I don’t think she’s nearly as recognizable of a name to the average person as someone like Dua Lipa. It is interesting that Rina has her beat already though, but I think part of that is exactly what I’m talking about. Rina is a coat-hanger. Charli is a genuine artist and authentic person. The trade off of that is that Charli might always be a little bit more niche but she’ll also always have a lot of artistic integrity and ability to command respect and admiration. Rina will rise a lot quicker but her career will always be nothing more than a vessel for industry mogels to steer to the nearest bank.

It reminds me of when Jesse Ware and Dua Lipa released the same album in like 2020 or whatever and one was like “wow you are an absolute icon, thank you mother” and the other was like “awe cute album henny, you’re doing great”

much as i still adore this album, it wouldn't shock me to see that pan out musically - but i feel that Rina is always going to retain control over her own image, and that the level of artistry she exercises over fashion and performance ultimately runs deeper than for the other two. as long as she's still invested in exploring mixed heritage and/or queer self-expression (or literally whatever so long as it's not pop for pop's sake), i struggle to reduce her to coat-hanger status. worst case scenario imo is that her music's just a means to an end

She does seem to have more of a lens for fashion than Dua Lipa I will grant that. I’m probably being a bit harsh about her based off how shakey her musical identity has been thus far, but it comes from a place of disappointment. When TunnelVision first dropped I thought she was going to be IT

Dua Lipa is definitely B-tier.

Yeah, Future Nostalgia was a smash and Levitating was MASSIVE, but she is not A-tier yet. I think she certainly could join that rank, but she is not there yet. An A-tier popstar will do numbers with pretty much anything they drop. It's the top of the top. Your Arianas, your Biebers. Dua dropped Sweetest Pie with one of the biggest rappers out there right now and it flopped. Her name doesn't carry the weight of superstars. If her next album is Future Nostalgia level, I could see her making that next step.
