Not huge fan on first listen but guess this is one where you really gotta spin a lot

I mean, this isn't too stylistically different from Highway

Ok but the songs aren't nearly as good as those on highway so

other than Dim and Dark Man, I'd disagree. To me, the chiller moments on this album are better overall than those on Highway.

yeah I haven't been able to get into Vertikal at all. Nightwalkers is definitely my favorite here.

the earlier records have more apparent hooks whereas this blooms with its discipline and layerings. Aesthetically this feels in line with Highway but stylistically it’s like the culmination of the band’s career, at least from Salvation onwards.

The debut is an aggressive sonofabitch

i've been a little bored with post-metal for the last few years, but this album is really engaging all the way through. enjoying it a lot.

Yeah this is impeccable in its transitions and atmospheric builds, on first listen I was like ‘OK, this thing is good’ now I’m essentially blown away by the majority of it. The quieter sections have so much to offer, I’m not even looking for those crescendos anymore, just patiently enjoying the ride.

"The quieter sections have so much to offer, I’m not even looking for those crescendos anymore, just patiently enjoying the ride." there's a really enjoyable western vibe to those quieter sections...uff...really nice

Okay we need to talk about Inland Rain/Fall. Just a mammoth ending to this album. This could be a 5 soon.

Incredible. I mean, the run from the t/t through to Lights is god-tier, but then they just deliver yet again with that one-two punch, love how one leads into the other seemlesly. It’s pretty easy to guess what my bottom 3 is here, not that any of those tracks are bad in the slightest.

In fact, time for a quick ranking...

Nightwalkers

Lights on the Hill

Inland Rain

A Dawn to Fear

The Fall

Lay Your Head to Rest

The Silent Man

We Fear the End

Something like that anyway.
