She really was lovely. Could probably knock up a wall, skim a ceiling and tile a bathroom before lunch as well.

Not a drop of that here. I reckon there’s some Pakistani, Indian or North African in my genes somewhere which is quite distressing.

'Stop trying to dictate how victims should feel or how they should express themselves, thx' (2)
I read that whole argument and this sums it up in one sentence.
I also don't think Doof is misogynistic - his past comments don't display any of these tendencies. The criticism appears to stem from his opinions regarding the quality of specific releases (which happen to be created by female artists), this is a redundant point in itself and can easily be put down to a coincidence, or at best a preference for a certain style of vocal. If someone provided negative feedback for every 'female-created' album they'd ever listened to, this STILL wouldn't necessarily be misogynistic, you need to look beyond that... how do they dissect the music? Do they provide any argument against the quality, without relying on discussing the artist's gender? Doof always provides criticisms related to the music regardless of gender (or race, religion, sexual orientation etc.)
I feel for the guy having to defend himself constantly.

Doof - so long as you don't take it seriously, that's cool. Personally I wouldn't want to be labelled as misogynistic on the basis of my music-related opinions. I imagine a lot of it is meant as light-hearted banter, you're just always going to get a few numbskulls who jump on the bandwagon and take it all as a gospel (without sufficient evidence).

other genres are not safe of the doof-zak combo either, as long as a woman is involved, e.g. this, little simz, etc
Another tart moulded by the shitstem.
Not bad at all though this it has to be said. It’ll win the mercury prize coz it ticks all the boxes. If she’s a lezza the sky’s the limit.

hate to fucking side with sach but i wan't each and everyone of you here whiteknighting doof to look up Lisa Germano's "Geek the Girl", read all the lyrics and get as much context as you can, then go just read doof's review summary for it

The missus was down on all fours last night, her sweet little feet popping just over the edge of the bed as per usual, all was well in the world when I thought I'd paraphrase this ginger lothario (he's mighty popular after all), so I told her she looked just like an angel 'in the shape of my mum'. She scampered to her feet quick as a flash and left the room making retching sounds. I was left standing there dumbfounded with a raging hard on and the image of Ed's freckled red furred unblinking fetid rodent face locked in my mind. I cannot, with a clear conscience, recommend this album.

UGH spent so much time turning this into a wholesome shitpost but of course bipartisan hellfire comes back to rule the roost how very 2019.

I have 0 shitposts about this album :[ this has been very much a derailment thread (although it has brought me back to Actually Listening to this and I definitely enjoyed it more so I guess all roads lead to Rome)
|

Visceral thing, I think - some of the lyrics/delivery hit me harder than I expected them to, although some of it grated and I'd been discussing abuse with some of my friends independently, so I guess I had a greater sensitivity to this.
Heard a couple of Kate Tempest tracks from the new one and am not keen to check in full :[

wholesome derailment indeed & i will second the fact that all this random conversing actually got me to listen to the album with a more open mind
