I love Bowie, but this is ridiculous. You guys are fellating a corpse.

I don't know about 'fellating a corpse,' but I do feel like some of the acclaim for this album is at least a little bit circumstantial- maybe not, i don't care to question the merit of anyone's ratings. I've never been a diehard Bowie fan but the diehards really came out of the woodwork for this one. Couple killer tracks here anyway.

Is that really cause to give a more generous rating to an album?

It's a 4.3, but his last 4.3 came in 1977. I don't care that people like this, I'm glad he went out with a bang and stayed true to himself. I just think the sputnik rating may be a bit inflated for reasons not really pertaining to the actual quality of the album and its songs individually, which, again, is fine- just pondering here.

I don't know how to say that without sounding like a dick or saying anyone's opinion is wrong.

Yeah gravitas means nothing. The symbolism of the whole thing means nada. 2 it.

Fair enough, Fripp. I legitimately wonder what percentage of the 256 5's were given before and after though. Seriously just curious.

Admittedly, the reaction was a bit kneejerk, yet somewhat justified with the content of the album making a whole lot more sense with his passing. A lot more context gave the album more depth, and all that.

I can't argue with that. All the pain and reflection on this definitely became more real considering the circumstances.

His death has every right to affect the experience and reception. The music video Lazarus the first time you saw it when you knew he died.

Yeah...even with all that in context, it's still not that great IMO. I have no doubt that some of you really like it, but I stand by my statement. I think most of the people on this site are ball fondling a dead icon and wearing him like a fashion statement, by over romanticizing his swan song and feigning passion. It's a form of attention whoring that hipsters do with art.
