They're just unsatisfied with their own unfulfilled, empty lives and feel the need to harshly criticize musician's accomplishments over and over again, it's sad really. The negative comments I see just make me love and appreciate Wilson's music even more that he can get under the skin of deplorables.

i think it's sad and pathetic how many people who diss and insult because we like prog rock and how it's labeled as arrogant and outdated

Prog rock can be cheesy and dated to be sure, but to right off everything or even most of it made after the 70s is pretty ignorant and unfair yea. Everyone will have their opinions, but there's no question that the genre has a huge amount of bands experimenting and pushing ideas further. It's just different eras doing different things is all, and liking one over the other is fine, but continually bashing bands who play that style in more recent years is sad and pathetic, just like you said.
Overall speaking, in my personal opinion, the classics are generally best though, especially between the years of 1968-75, and that extends to genres like classic/psychedelic/baroque pop and rock as well. So much amazing new prog rock/metal is being made as well though, especially in this century.

i think it's completely fine to express your dislike towards certain bands/albums/genres for sake of discussion every now and then

Exactly, why should people who dislike something be excluded from the discussion? As long as they're just as civil as the people who do like, they're welcome.

The thing is though some people are uncivil and overly harsh about it, bordering on trolling in some cases, being relentless and stopping any real discussion from happening frequently. Of course it's fine for people to express their dislike civilly.
|
| |
On the other hand, people can be that way if they like something. "Fuck you for not liking this"
|
| |
a good example of how to not express your dislike of a band is by reading the last 60+ comments of the Art Angels thread.

like calling steven wilson trash and a horrible person for making this music is just so stupid and in poor taste

"They're just unsatisfied with their own unfulfilled, empty lives and feel the need to harshly criticize musician's accomplishments over and over again, it's sad really."
Someone who strongly dislikes an artist and lets it be known is "unsatisfied with their own unfulfilled, empty lives". Regardless of who that's aimed at I think that is a ridiculous assumption to make.
|
| |
In fact I'd question ones satisfaction with their own life if they feel the need to imagine that that's the case for people who criticize music they like.
