the slower, more repetitive songs on this work really well because they're always building toward something, toward some sort of climax, whether it's with the instrumental or with Peter's vocals (which are amazing on tracks like Intruders and Parade). The new track has the repetition of one of these songs, but it goes nowhere. There's no payoff, just one melody and line repeated over and over

"not that Hospice isn't gorgeous but all the lyrics on that album are stuck in one mode"

calling the lyrics on Hospice homogeneous is a horrible take

not necessarily horrible but it does miss the metaphor of hospice quite entirely; especially in the range and depth it goes into the story / feeling

It’s about the line by line delivery Voltron. Bear is a great example. Rich, weighty imagery in every phrase. I can’t compare it to their other work as I’m less familiar, but I do know that the lyrics on Hospice are what makes it a 5.

I guess every album with an underlying theme throughout the tracklist is “stuck in one mode” no matter how powerful that theme may be.

but even then the theme is doubled; the cancer as a metaphor for an emotionally abusive relationship is v well done and constantly unfurls

Agreed, although I think the line between her cancer treatment being taken literally or strictly as a metaphor can be a bit grey. The way I see it, each song is him (or her in 13’s case) reassessing their relationship at each stage of the treatment. It’s like he knows he’s forced to mentally divorce her even tho he never asked for her to be taken from him. The agony of knowing your life will continue while her’s will not. ):

Yeah I gotta be honest 'Wheels Fall Off' didn't do much for me. It isn't bad, but it lacks that trademark Antlers atmosphere that always draws me in. Feels kind of plain, boring, and dare I say lazy. It's a nice little ditty but I was certainly hoping for something more creative and elaborate.

Maybe its the fanboy in me, but I like the single a lot. Agree its missing the signature Antlers vibe, but hearing Peter again after so long is amazing.
