For a ton of people this was a very important record. When Hybrid Theory was released Linkin Park was like "the" heavier rock band that slipped through the cracks and showed up in music television programs for people all ages. So a lot of young kids got to know a song like 'Crawling' when it popped up in between all of the dance tunes playing on for instance MTV.
Even more so than plenty of other mainstream rock bands, this basically pop music. It's reasonably well written though and Chester Bennington's voice did have a certain specific quality to it.

papercut is the only good song they have, rest is pretty basic and a sad thing to happen to music

rating it as a classic

This is more a failing of sputnik's rating system than anything. What defines a classic album? For me personally, I throw around 5s with very little care. Some are nostalgic (like this), others are formative albums for me, some are sarcastic, and others are albums I consider flawless or close to it.

I wish that mx would have used a different word for the 5 rating, as there are many "classic" albums that aren't deserving of a 5.

Crawling is a great song, this is a great album, it’s not outdated. It’s just an awesome album. I don’t think there’s anything immature about it, or any other LP albums for that matter. Chester’s lyrics were from the heart and incredibly authentic. Nothing immature about it.

To say that Crawling is laughable is ridiculous. Anybody who has gone through drug withdrawal and addiction knows how true to words the song are. Addiction is hell.

No doubt he meant the lyrics, I'm just describing my reaction to hearing it after years of memes.

It's like what Devin Townsend said after meeting Nickelback; their music is as sincere as his, people just react to it differently.

Papercut, Forgotten, Place For My Head, With You and Cure For The Itch are all god-tier. The rest ranges from decent to cringe.

@Adolf That's why I commented here. People with 5 ratings calling parts of the album "cringe"...something's not quite right.

I mean you can cringe at something and still like it

Nostalgia my guy. This was literally the first album I got into on my own as a teen.

Also the cringey songs like In The End, Crawling, Run Away, One Step Closer, haven't jammed those in over 5 years. I still go back to the tracks that hold up cause there's nothing really like it.
