Did you know the U.S. government actually banned sliced break during WWII? They thought the metal for war-materials was more important than the blades needed for bread-slicing machines. The American public didn't think the same way though, and a few short months later the ban was lifted.

I don't see whats up with all the negative reviews. Sure it's cheesy, and pretty dorky, but the musicians are clearly talented, and personally, I thought the songs were memorable. Plato's Tripartite and Yellow Teeth were pretty awesome, and even though its more "accessible" and more "catchy", I loved the album.

Love the album but the intro to skies is just unbearable. When he sings "cough, gasp, sputter" I just fricken hate him. Rest of the song is great though

This album is a mess. SO painfully obvious that the music was written without Rody, his vocals barely fit any song. A Life Embossed is just the tip of the shit-iceberg. I can deal with the fact that it's also obvious that pretty much all of this was written individually in front of computers instead of jamming and working on the songs together in a practice space. I get it. Most bands do it like this these days. But this is just not what they should deliver after receiving that amount of funds from the fans.
Now with Arif gone aswell the band's pretty much over. Pretty sad, Fortress is one of my all time favorite albums.

snake be a cool guy and edit that shit
personally i won't give up on these guys unless they lose a guitarist or rody. i don't think arif had much to do with the writing besides lyrics on the first two albums.

I agree that it isn't Kezia, but Kezia was a once in a career type album. That's like saying "sure this Michael Jackson album is alright, but it ISN'T Thriller." It's a false comparison. I find it a solid, very enjoyable album, and art, be it music or otherwise, need not always be laden with rich themes and powerful messages. Sometimes, it can be fun for fun's sake. Imagine dwelling in a world solely made of thoughts about social injustice and the plagues of modernity; it's repressive. I personally love songs about alien battles. Fluffy lyrics are just as enjoyable as those that provoke deep introspection. Volition is a rich, catchy, and musically delightful album, and I personally think it's miles better than "average."

fortress is really the only thing I like by this band, so much nostalgia of jamming it at full blast in the car with my bros in high school
