Sounds about right. Sure, they got compared to Tool a lot, but they had a solid thing developing.

I think they were really trying to shrug off the Tool comparisons with this album. From what i've read, they're a bit sick of them.

Alpha Omega took a a few listens for me to really like. That part and also the part near the end where Kenny is just belting it out are fucking awesome.

I also hear more Tool here, partially because they resort to weird time signatures to get their point across. Reminds me of when I'd be counting to Lateralus, confused as all hell-- but I did prefer it when they did it.

If I've learned one thing from Sputnik it's that anything and everything sounds like Tool.

i always find it odd that porcupine tree never get compared to tool - they do all the same drop d style riffing as tool on their later albums

but yeah pretty much the whole british prog scene never gets compared to tool, but they're all compared to pink floyd instead.

never heard anyone compare devin townsend to tool either but im a biased fanboy so y'know

Nah porcupine tree is totally different. Though if they did a collaboration I think that would be awesome

I can't possibly imagine Tool writing a song like Eidolon, Sky Machine, The Refusal, Themata,

Roquefort, or All I Know. I've never seen the comparison, except in a couple of specific riffs here

and there. There's not a lot to substantiate the claim on, aside from the use of odd time signatures,

but countless progressive bands that sound nothing like Tool use those as well, so that argument seems

flimsy.

I don't get it. There are plenty of Tool rip-offs (See Rishloo's first two albums), but this isn't one

of them.

Eidolon is not a tool rip off omg. They have even said that tool isn't an influence. At least not directly
