Never really thought of Cabinet as Suffocation oriented. But I think I get what you're saying with "It scratches the exact itch I want when wanting brutal tech in the vein of early Suffo, Deeds of Flesh, Cryptopsy, and maybe that first Decapitated album." cuz I kinda feel the same way.

But yeah every SoP album rules. To those who rated this low, I'd give it another chance at some point (goes for any album of theirs really) before you write them off. First time I heard this and Noctambulant I didn't care much for them, but they came on a random shuffle later on and suddenly I couldn't get enough.

also note that just because i'll say something is x-WORSHIP doesn't mean i think it's a clone. i mean i'd be pretty shocked if it turns out the SoP guys never liked Suffo. it's not even saying the band isn't unique, because I think every one of their releases is a landmark in unique and creative tech death.

but to me it still worships at the altar of Suffocaxiun and i love all their unique and beautiful worshippers like children growing up to own their own independent ice cream business while daddy/god suffo still owns that baller law firm

Yeah, a lot of people like to compare this album to Necrophagist for some reason

their first album was good but epitaph is pure boring mode tech death for the most part

this one is pretty solid throughout, has a lot of spark to it

As the years pass, I really start to understand how fuckin special this band is. Every album is a total mindfuck myself have schizophrenic love for. The wtf factor with this one is pretty high. The very labyrinthine structures of those tracks are something to embrace.

Suffocation is definitely a valid point of comparison for Cabinet, some of the palm-muted chromatics are an obvious ode to the former. I'd hesitate before calling it "worship" though.

Bryssling's sense of melody and counterpoint was very inventive at the time, although it became much more idiosyncratic by the time Noctambulant dropped. This album is on another level. Still nothing that sounds quite like it.

The Evangelist is one of the most intense songs I’ve ever heard, 1000 riffs per minute.
