not that this is a btbam thread, but colors was an incredible album. if you can't see that then you probably don't understand complex music theory very well. oh and back on topic. a few more weeks! and bloodmeat owns SO hard. This Message Edited On 01.10.08

Average songwriting can bring a whole album down easy. Not for nothing, but the death parts are woefully cheesy. I'm sure BTBAM were fully aware that their silly polka and bluegrass shticks were cheesy, but even the tech-death route sounds like them just being heavy and techy for the sake of it. Also, the album gets horribly boring after a while. From a technical musician standpoint, yeah it's flawless. But it's also far too bloated for it's own good, and gets really painfully tiring to listen to after about 15 minutes. Its relentless, and because of that, it's a one trick pony. It's either them being ironically cheesy, or being over the top technical. When you don't have the songwriting skills to back up either of these things, very simply, your album sucks. Sorry, but I understand enough musical theory to appreciate how technical the album is, but that doesn't mean I enjoy it.

Protest the Hero, while being pretty cheesy at times too, has the songwriting skills and the taste to back it up. Which is why they win.

"the royalty must die (must die). the royalty must die like common beggars and petty theives. the royalty must die like common beggars and petty thieves....tomorrow they will find us, oh god, ooooooh god, hide the children [...] the king of kings wore seven rigs and sixty feathers plucked from sparrows wings. he's growing fat on the throne where he sat like a stone, a man who has never known no hunger, shown no mercy. those who ride against us will be murdered where they stand. let our arrows rain from the sky and drain the blood into the land. with our morals stand before him strike him down and if heaven rides against us then god himself be damned" from bone marrow

My hardcopy has beeps, which are mostly unnoticable. My digital doesnt. So, yeah. I have two copies, one of which has zero beeps, the other of which has very subtle ones. So, take your smart alleckery elsewhere

That was my first impressions too, but as Cocaine will probably tell us, keep all Fortress posts on the PTH thread on the forums.

I was just about to post the exact same thing Pluh, when people say cheesy I think of taking pre-conceptions to the extreme, Dragonforce are cheesy, Hammerfall are cheesy, PTH, are not.
