I don't get the slipknot fan base. So on the whole do all the cancerous mainstream fans who think they're the best band in the world enjoy this and the first album or mainly/exclusively their more melodic later stuff?

I believe it's the first three records. Vol.3 and IOWA are known to be fan favourites. Then again, those ARE probably the best ones this band put out, IMO.

Idk, back when I used to be one of those cancerous mainstream fans (middle school) I thought their first album was their best by far. It's pretty easily my least favorite now. Mind you, aside from a few songs I rarely listen to any of them anymore.

It might really vary it's true. This was my favourite band for a while when I was 15-17 (this is unfortnately only about 2 years ago), and I hated Vol.3. Now I'm suddenly smart enough to get the maturation the band went through there so I prefer it over s/t.

I believe the most cancerous fans think anything they put out is auto-AOTY, just like with most bands that have a large following.

Hmm interesting

To me it always seems like most of those mainstream fans are around my age and so wouldn't have been old enough to feel the nu metal hype back in the early 00s, therefore wouldn't really be into slipknot for the whole mega angst/anger thing, but rather to look hardcore or cool

Angst always kind of gets into people of a certain age. The biggest acts amng youngsters are always frustrated, angry and/or/angsty, it seems to me.

Their debut self-titled is easily their best. Both that album and this one would be better if not for the obnoxious closing tracks.

I understand people shitting on the band when they turned into "Stone Sour 2.0", but in my opinion there's nothing wrong with the first two albums. Heavy, with a sound of its own and at times actually interesting song structures. I think more "real metalheads" would enjoy an album like this if it wouldn't have the name "Slipknot" attached to it.

honestly this album and their self titled are both still better than like 90% of grind/pv/skramz lol

Vol.3 was a perfect amalgamation of Stone Sour elements and their heavy sound; it's anything post Vol.3 where it all turns into the Stone Sour show.

I need to give their debut more listens than I should, but I can't get enough of this beast.
