@Reefa - I don’t consider this bad production at all because this was the sound intended by Darkthrone; it was meant to sound like this and if it didn’t, it would not be the same classic it is regarded as today.

That being said, I know what you mean and are asking, and I could list dozens of records with “worse” production. This came out in 1994, and band’s have been striving to make records more unlistenable than this since then. This record has become like a baseline rawness that other groups have worked off of to sound rawer. Bands like Carved Cross, Vucub Cane, essentially any record released by Legion Blotan, or Perverse Homage, etc….

Sorry for the long-winded response and obviously I know what you mean when you say this sounds bad because technically it does, but I always feel - especially in black metal - that intent needs to be taken into account when judging.

@TheSpirit

Well I did say several times that I acknowledge that the sound was intended but that I still hate it very much. A Blaze Of The Northern Sky sounds amazing though. I wish they would have kept that production quality.

I’ve figured out why Norwegian black metal sucks so hard

It was like the late 70s early 80s punk movement, but unlike bands like the pistols, these guys took themselves way too seriously. Punk bands sucked and they embraced it; it was kinda the point.

Whereas these retards are making shitty trem riffs and blasts for 5 minutes and think they’re making some artistic societal statement. No you’re just shitty musicians lol
