"How though?"

It's hard for me to put into words since I'm no pro at actual music theory, but I remember my Classical Music History professor (when I took my art credit lol) said something about early 1900s dissonant classical music and how to the average person, it sounds like nonsense, but that if you train your ear to ignore things that are typical of "traditional Western structures" you can understand that this music isn't at all a jumbled mess but actually carefully organized.

While Beefheart may not be to the same extent as this, it'd say Trout Mask Replica takes cues from this at least in the way that it ignores "traditional Western structures" in an attempt to create something new and exciting and that what we've been raised to think has to be the "right structure" might keep us from enjoying well put together music.

And now I feel super pretentious, but I still stand by my claim, until someone rips it apart with a decent argument (I expect it to be hal1ax out of anyone in this thread who tears it apart)

Well it's really only important to rock (especially since it influenced punk and new wave,) so I'm guessing if you were taking classes focused on classical, jazz, electronic, etc it'd be irrelevant?

So I'm guessing every rock album you consider important ever was included in that class?
