Wow, you guys must not like musical regurgitation. At all.

Is regurgitation of any kind really good? But John Myung hasn't featured on a DT album for a while dude

Like since Scenes from Memory. But if that's all that really mattered, almost every DT rating I'd have would be a 0.5

Well it is 1/5th of the music. But thats not the main issue, DT have been regurgitating since TOT, its enough now.

Fair enough. I'm one of those people who probably has an extinct method of viewing music in general, or just a divorced opinion from the general public.

Nah dude the general public loves every DT album, fewer people don't like where DT is going. Check on youtube and forums, people love the newer DT albums.

true, that probably isn't going to stop anytime soon. I'm also kind've frustrated with most of the current popular albums. They don't really reflect anything clever anymore. of course, I'm facing a creative shift at the same time, so that might be an explanation.

The genre progressive metal has been at a sort of a standstill. Maybe a decade ago, at its purest form, it was still acclaimed. I personally think for the most part, it's beginning to die off.

Right now it does. I actually enjoy alternative and indie more than anything else this year. Strange, coming from a prog rock fan. My new question isn't so simple: when will it fade away? It's so popular right now, but is there a tip to the iceberg? I'm waiting right now for an entirely new genre 100 times than dubstep to take over the music industry.

Mainstream music genre's are very shortlived (other than pop and rap), thats their issue, they don't have enough character to remain interesting for long, or mainstream audiences can't stand one genre for 2 long (in this case they'll have something in common with proggers :-O). Well as long as the younger generation is all suicidal screamo and that crap will last for a while.
"Strange, coming from a prog rock fan"
Dude NOTHING is strange coming from a prog rock fan, thats the beauty of prog, you don't limit yourself

I've been defending the genre for years with a good reason. I live in the past because the future doesn't look too bright. Hopefully, that will change.
