Good idea on checking out Merciless, Dominion. Oft forgotten along w/Messiah but both are worth checking out if you consider Selfless a top tier Godflesh album.

Agreed, but personally, Godflesh to me (as well as Jesu) is all about contradiction and paradox and that in itself best describes the band for me without resorting to genre naming.
It hasn't dawned on me until now that Streetcleaner doesn't sound outdated at all. I watched a Revolver documentary on the Nothing/Jesu/Prurient live collab one-off and what Dominick Fernow (Prurient) said about the album I think holds a lot of truth. He says it remains timeless because “it continues to raise questions whether they be existential, religious, human; whether they are questions about genre definition, or music”.
