Yeah I definitely hear the punk here. Post-punk is a fair adjective. I was on track to 4 it but its a little long for the content there. Later half starts to drag a little.

The older I get and the three or four thousandth time I listen to this album from start to finish the more I think it might be my favorite album ever, as well as the best of the entire first wave of punk. The impact and influence this had on the genre and culture cannot be expressed enough, to me this is the album that legitimized the entire genre and culture of punk as something more than just a passing fad or trend. And to this day, there isn't a song on here I skip. And the highs are about as high as any band punk or not hit in the 70s. Like, man, Guns of Brixton? Pure, absolute genius.

Never got the hype around this album. Sure it has amazing tracks, but bloated on the whole and way too eclectic.

I think I enjoyed Sandinista more than this one but I gotta revisit both.

Agreed dewi Sandinista has its issues obviously length being one of them but I think it’s much better than this record

True, I never dared to touch Sandinista, and the childish reason is that it’s the favorite album of a guy I dislike. Simple as that.

I wasn’t 100% sold on this album until I moved to Stockwell and used to play five or six songs at a time travelling on buses around the area one brutally hot summer. Then it made sense.

There's a touch of wistfulness on so many of these tracks that just didn't happen with punk at the time, actually the whole brilliance of it isn't just the stylistic jumps, it's the variety and breadth of human experience that's in so much of the music and lyrics.
