"Real post-rock" only consists of the uk scene and the 90's american scene. What is known by "crescendocore" is nothing but U2 Arena Rock with questionable real post-rock influence. When people try to argue that bands like Radiohead are not real post-rock, while saying that Explosions in the Sky are, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake post-rock as Radiohead (plus the pretentiousness). Real post-rock sounds TEXTURAL, POWERFUL and somewhat JAZZY. Fake post-rock is saccharine, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL POST-ROCK are Pram, Cerberus Shoal, Circle (the only real post-rock band from the 2000s) and Cul de Sac. Some examples of FAKE Post-rock are Explosions in the Sky, We Lost the Sea and Sleepmakeswaves. Post-rock BELONGS TO KRAUTROCK NOT TO INDIE, SlUDGE METAL, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

@vastwilderness That initial enumeration oozing with displeasement, insinuates an ideological position no one in this thread has thus far espoused. I agree Beethoven is probably superior to a random punk band, but the parameters that foreground that assessment are still personal, socially constructed, subjective. And one can certainly construe criteria for judging instrumental aptitude or compositional quality, but those criteria are still socially constructed and tied to the subjective perspective of those who've construed them.

Also, what's so ridiculous about referring to bands mixing shoegaze with black-metal and hints of post metal 'Blackgaze'?
