Agreed. Still, the first 3 are all classics so I can forgive them for stumbling a little bit on Marrow.

I read the the band was "disturbed" by how clean and well produced AATG was, so I think Marrow came out exactly like they wanted it. I don't enjoy it as much as the others at all, but I wouldn't call it a falter in their talent, more like a falter in their overall idea for the album.

Yeah, it's not a bad album at all. I really like it, but it can't touch the others.

Agreed, and I'm not worried that they have lost anything, I still expect many more masterpieces out of them over the course of their career.

Yeah I don't think they'll ever touch the first 3 again, but still they'll put out quality material. Don't really think they'll ever have a truly bad album.

I think it's just as good as the others but you know that already. The merging of all their influences there was just absolutely flawless to me. Black Lake....just damn. Everything about that song is perfect and I think it's a perfect rendition of all of the styles they've tried and executed to perfection, which is why it's my favourite Agalloch track.
I get chills for 18 minutes every time I listen. I'm a huge post-rock enthusiast (I make my own post-rock too if you're interested in hearing it, drop me a shoutbox message and I'll link you /shamelessselfpromotion), and a drone enthusiast so to me that song is amazing for its twists and turns yet still keeping the same idea throughout the song.
I wish I could compose a song that perfect. It's probably the best song I've ever heard, period. :[
damn my fanboyism has gone through the roof this time

Black Lake Nidstang is easily my least favorite of the 4 non-instrumentals on Marrow. I think it would've been much better if they cut like 7 minutes off of it.

If they did that it would have ruined the song.

I think they have yet to release their best album, somewhere down the road I bet they come up with something ridiculous. And as for BLN, if they would have cut the entire electronic section out it would have been a million times better.

Yeah I don't think they'll ever touch the first 3 again
The problem with starting your career writing classics is that your newer material will always be judged against it. And that's pretty tough as a band, which is why i doubt we'll ever see another Agalloch album.

I think people are vastly underestimating what Agalloch is capable of because of Marrow. And reception outside of Sputnik has been huge for it.

yeah I genuinely think I'm the only one here who thinks Marrow is a masterpiece.
I think underestimating them could work in the favor of Agalloch because they might blow everyone away next time.

Eventually they will top everything they have done, I don't underestimate them one bit.

@Gmork89: I don't either, not by a longshot. They're my favourite band by a landslide.

I hope that happens. My expectations are always so high for this band though so anything less than a masterpiece is pretty much disappointing even if it's still really good.
