i think one of the things that has thrown me off across the board was thinking early metal was much heavier. it's almost like Hard rock, especially with most of the singers. Being someone who has heard Lamb of God, Soilwork, Amorphis, Katatonia, Pantera, B'lakor, etc

haha no prob and you don't have to! totally agree if you don't dig rust, dip out. no shame but also a little because rust is goated.

and yeah i get it for sure. very hard to go back when you've heard heavier stuff. but this shit was heavy as balls back in the day, so was sabbath. definitely interesting to think about now that all the extremes have been pushed to the max.

Thrash isn’t the heaviest genre out there, that’s why many of our resident dm contingent make fun of it so much.
If you want heavy thrash try early Slayer, Kreator, Sodom, Sepultura, Demolition Hammer or Possessed. The first Pestilence album and some of Scream Bloody Gore I’d also call thrashy

i used to be kind of the same. but now i realize thrash is metal is it's purest form. the riffs are undeniable.

Spiritually thrash is closer to heavy metal and punk rock which is why I gravitated towards it more. There’s also extreme era bands like Celtic Frost where all metal fans meet in the middle

oh i am gonna continue with megadeath and see it through. Me getting into contemporary metal first is something i know for sure has thrown me off. which is why i am currently focusing on older music at this time. even outside of the metal genre. i do have slayer and possessed as well. I have so many damn bands at this point on my ipod it is insane. 143 days worth >.< it is nucking futs

Budgie i am open to virtually anything. for instance Burzum looks interesting. I see you enjoy some of their work.

I grew up thinking Slipknot and the Offspring was the heaviest shit ever
Now I just want to listen to white noise and podcasts lol

That's it, time for a Megadeth discog run. It has to be done.

Not my favorite band. But rust in peace is one of the hardest 5's ever hawks. Like goat territory

I hate the new album, but I have to hear their early stuff for sure.

Having discog run most of the early era Anthrax, Maiden and Megadeth albums the last couple of weeks then there's no competition - Megadeth wipe the floor with the other two, as good as some of those bands stuff is at times.

I highly doubt I'll enjoy as much as Maiden, but stranger things have happened lol.

Megadeth have a whiff of danger and some attitude - Maiden have a lot of great qualities but not really that.
Megadeth seem more convincing with the occult stuff and also the politics were contemporary and quite angry/grim depending on the subject.
They're also more punk....or stay more punk, as the first two Maiden albums have a bit of that too admittedly.
'Peace Sells' and 'Rust in Peace' I've elevated to classics now on revisit.

I'm enjoying this, but man, Dave vocals are a huge hurdle for me personally. They are way better here than on the new album though and the riffs are undeniable.
