"I hope you realize how big the underground scene really is. It may be called underground just cus its not necessarily on the radio but there's still a big audience for it."

A big following spread out among a sea of talents. I'm not dismissing the merits of underground music, but to have an album from an underground artist receive the collective/universal notoriety of something such as TPAB is a nigh-impossible task, which was my point.

I've heard enough of Snoop's stuff in last few years to know he fell off. I don't agree that he's stealing from Suga Free like you're saying. Of course the underground is huge, but this record can't just be boiled down to "insert underground hip hop record". This would be great, no matter how popular the record is or who put it out.

The Fresh Pair of Panties beat is plenty similar in style but it just repeats over and over again, where every track in TPaB has some twist thrown in to keep the track fresh at any given moment. Plus, Kendrick is consistently rapping better than Snoop on that track.

44 Wayz is a fantastic song, but you can't just say "THIS SONG IS JAZZY SO KENDRICK COPIED IT VERBATIM".

Not all jazz sounds the same, there are nuances that make songs different, different grooves, different melodies, different arrangements, more exciting and more boring ones, and it's the same with jazz rap.

Lastly, I think Kendrick probably has a discog with more highs than Sage or Ali, and while I love peak DOOM more than peak Kendrick, DOOM is decidedly not conscious in most of his bars and they all rap very differently. You can't just say SIMILARITIES make things the SAME.

I'mma pop out of this debate because I'll be the first to say my hip hop knowledge is lacking in comparison to many, but I still do think the widespread impact of this record makes it an album of some significant importance.

lol I hope this is all in good spirit. I think debating shit like this is fun, no lie. And Pleb, that song bangs and the rest of the album bangs.

Well, at the same, you can't act like people don't actually get mad in these forums either though.

I don't think 44 Wayz is exactly the same it's just an example of similar jazz rap from years ago

Also, I disagree hard about Snoop. I don't think he's fallen off at all. Doggumentary from 2011 is one of my favorite rap albums from anyone. Coolaid is full of bangers and was a great return to form after taking a break from rap on his studio albums although he did have the Thats My Work series which is also good. Bush had fantastic production from Pharrell and I love Snoop's singing and the melodies all over that album and the numerous appearances from my boi Charlie Wilson. Neva Left has numerous of his best songs, especially 420 Blaze It which is a top 10 song of his imo. Make America Crip Again and 220 are good EPs but I think 220 is way better and is also full of bangers and just general fun. Haven't heard Bible of Love cus I don't think he's on every song.

When you say you know enough of his recent material to know he fell off, I have to wonder, do you just judge the singles? And how far back is recent? If you think he fell off after Doggystyle, then sir, I have a big SMH for you ):

Check out either of Kendrick’s recent Grammy performances. It’s very clear that his message and presentation is resonating with millions and in a very tangible way. In album that focuses on discrimination in such a personal way that is also not important or impactful in any way, wouldn’t be sitting at a 4.4 avg right now homie. Very few albums from the past 5 years have achieved such a feat (on this site). It is very influential and, along with GKMC, will define 2010s hip hop.
