any artist with multiple 4.5+ (2+ is sufficient) can be considered elite I reckon…
metal-wise that’s literally just Cult of Luna, Neurosis, Isis, Opeth, Gorguts, Dillinger & Death now (I think)
I have a couple of single 5s with no 4.5s too (Persefone + Fall of Efrafa)

What about bands like Defeated Sanity with majority 3.9 albums? They're just as if not MORE elite than a lot of the sputnik sacred cows

Indeed, DS are in my Top 7, which would be as of today:
1 - Deathspell Omega
2 - Enslaved
3 - Rush
4 - Gorguts
5 - Isis
6 - Alice in Chains
7 - Defeated Sanity
I don't really have a top 7 but a Top 50 list, yet by score/albums this would be a correct estimation

Nah Row, I respect consistency and in rare occasions the two can coexist but I will prioritise ceiling. If a band has made one of my go-to albums in a genre then that places them above solid ‘always-at-least-good types’
funnily enough Ulcerate are now in that bracket until further notice. Great band. Pretty consistently enjoyable with not-insignificant highs. I wouldn’t say they’re a favourite though. Then again I’m harsher than most… I’d just hesitate in mentioning them if being forced to make a ‘list’

mmm k... maybe I was a bit harsh on this one, so I update my score to a 4, but I'm still thinking this is the second worst Ulcerate :
PS: Nah man, I'm leaving this at a 3,5... New album track is better than any track in here to me. Hoping for Shrines level Ulcerate in 2024

A playlist that goes from DSM to Rush is something I can get behind on a car ride

Also Donchivo, I've been jamming Ulcerate non-stop these last couple months and in between that I always have time to throw on some Springsteen

"I like post-metal influence a lot more than any actual post-metal"
This is kind of me but with black metal sometimes
|
| |
with almost any true post metal band i basically go "or i could just listen to panopticon again"
