Guys, any tips on not sucking? I'm feeling pretty sucky lately, my brain won't translate my ideas to my fingers. Does anybody have hands that I can borrow?

I'd get off the instrument a bit and listen to something you don't usually listen to; fires up the neurons.

Plant some herbs. Get a dog. Eat some ass. These are the top 3 as seen on Family Feud

Maybe it's failing confidence. I just occurred to me that we should let Erik know he doesn't actually suck.

I spend quite some time in the kitchen so I have good speakers there. And I like to shuffle my playlist there for some reason. It's a kitchen thing you know?

Anyway it was playing Charging The Void and my gf walked in starting to sing along to a riff. I explained how the spacedude had just discovered a cosmic secret, and he was a in a state of euphoria and that's why there's a choir. Right then: OH EH OH EOEOE AEAEAH!

I got goosebumps, man.

Well, she feigned interest, but quickly walked away.

I was just phishing for compliments, I'm an attention whore lolololol.
But really, I'm just having a tough time with some riffs I'm working on. I feel like I can write an incredibly solid riff, then fumble on a transition for weeks or months to connect it to another great riff. I'm trying to emphasize song flow once I have a few good riffs to work with in a song, so transitions are super important to me.

"you can have my hands or my basement anytime king"
Send them over, I'll give them a test drive.

"Maybe you need a new brain instead? Kidding"
You're probably right haha, mine is always malfunctioning.

"I'd get off the instrument a bit and listen to something you don't usually listen to; fires up the neurons."
Definitely good advice, might be just what I need. I'll listen to some Abba or something hahaha.

"Cocaine and alcohol is a classic solution."
Hard pass lol. I'd rather not ruin Charlie Murphy's couch again.

"Plant some herbs. Get a dog. Eat some ass. These are the top 3 as seen on Family Feud"
Not a fan of dogs, nor a fan of anything ass related with my mouth or wiener. No poopdick for this guy.

Could be, when you spend too much time on something you get in your own head and try to analyze every single note instead of taking it as a bigger picture kind of thing...at least that's what I do hah. Good words regardless, too bad your wife didn't stay interested longer, is she not a metal fan?

I cannot even imagine playing at the level of Charging the Void, I only just learned the solo from Comfortably Numb and I'm struggeling learning any other solo's. Can I get some tips from the master himself?

Clearly the easiest answer is "practice!" which is clearly true, but if I could go back while I was learning a lot of what I know now...I would do things different. I learned as many techniques as I could really quickly, and got *barely* decent at them. What I would recommend, is learning a technique, focus on it for a while, then move onto a new one. I'm trying to adopt that mentality now that I'm older.

I'm slowly starting to learn that mentality too, I think that is probally one of the biggest things any guitarist needs to get out of their head. I'm still trying to get my downpicking consistent by playing Son of Lilth 100 times in a row, where I first just brushed past it and got tired from the picking. Thanks for the tips, reconfirms what I've been doing for the past months.

The blast beats that storm in on Recharging the Void signals the most accurate musical representation of drugs entering the brain that I can find.
