Calling this boring makes no sense at all though. Most songs are so dense. Wesley's Theory alone has like 6 parts happening at any time usually. Vocal harmonies, synths, bass, saxes, rapping, etc.

I mean, maybe for you. For me it's lush and very beautifully arranged. This =/= Merzbow

I just think reducing all of that nuanced music writing to "white noise" is kinda disingenuous is all.

and i don't. it's too much, it's not interesting, and ultimately it's to its detriment.

I see you like Charles Ives, whom I'm also a huge fan of. lol I would think he'd be harder to digest than this. I guess it boils down to stylistic preference.

i don't find it hard to digest, i just think the spastic writing is poorly done, doesn't go anywhere and it doesn't help the piece

It's like, lovingly building off of decades of established soul, r&b, funk and jazz though. Feels like it's ebbing and flowing, progressing all the time to me.

as crazy as the backing music to everything is, each song itself flows from beginning to end exceptionally well imo, placing countless fills in just the right places to make each of them stand out as a pivotal part of the piece.

Right? Not just throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks. I think how everything related to everything else was intensely considered at all times.

But if you deride it/him on similar terms, it's valid? I talk about all music the same way, if it's pretentious, so what. I guess detailed reviews are pretentious too. lol And this record was super important for hip hop in a lot of people's opinions.
