Waste came on when I was in the car an hour ago. I remember really not liking that song when this dropped, but it’s a real nice tune. Maybe too simple for its own good, but I love that chorus

'explain this criticism'
it can just come off as a really basic 4-chord song and it sounds like something that anyone could write.

chorus lyrics always felt drab as dirt on waste, but it ain't a bad song

Waste is one of the weakest songs here in that all it really brings to the table is a solid hook. It's fairly basic musically & lyrically. In the rare instances when I feel compelled to reimagine this record (usually just to save some time), Waste is typically one of the first to go along with Could Never Be Heaven, which is pretty but sort of kills the flow.
My favorite way to hear this is still:
1. Lit Me Up
2. Can't Get It Out
3. Same Logic/Teeth
4. In The Water
5. 137
6. Out of Mana
7. Desert
8. No Control
9. 451
10. Batter Up
Many would say Desert or No Control should be cut before Could Never Be Heaven or Waste, but to me its all about fitting the aura. No Control might be basic as hell but when it launches into that instrumental with the creepy laugh clip in the outro, it earns its keep in the atmosphere. Desert I could be swayed on because it's less of a fit, but I keep it in because of its dark and controversial subject matter. Waste is just a latent Deja Entendu song and Heaven sounds like a mewithoutYou b-side (those sound like criticisms, but I still enjoy them both a lot!)

Waste is a perfect followup to Cant Get it Out and the sequencing only really falters a bit in the back end
Out of Mana and 137 still being together is baffling

I don't think Waste is the perfect follow-up to Can't Get It Out at all though. It's an A-tier Deja track followed by a B-tier Deja track. It's too much of the same thing in a short span.
Why wouldn't 137 and Out of Mana still go together? The one song literally bleeds right into the next.

"It's too much of the same thing in a short span."
this is literally neek catnip though. I think the same would apply to 137/Mana if they weren't decently paced internally. not huge on either, but they're a good duo
No Control and maybe Same Logic (bad fanservice ugh) are the only tracks i feel should never have made it here. stick that No Control outro on Waste or Heaven plz

Sticking the No Control outro on a different track is the real answer. At first I laughed at the prospect of it being tacked on to Heaven, but then I actually thought about it and it might have been a seriously decent fit. 137/Mana aren't all that similar to my ears, although I also reckon it's because of the pacing differences.

137 and out of mana are the same song

In essence they are because they flow into one another, but otherwise they're plenty different. The tempo and overall structure isn't really close.

Really love the first song ''Lit Me Up'' great imagery in the lyrics, very vivid feelings. And the sweet chorus in ''No Control'' maybe my favorite chorus on the album.
Some of the songs are real dirges though, super bleak and depressing, like the song ''137'' love that super twisted sounding solo in the second half of that song, but what a dark song.

Yeah lit me up is an all-timer for sure. Especially with fall right around the corner, I’ll be spinning that one again quite a bit

Oh no Sowing I think Could Never Be Heaven is one of their very best songs
I also loved Handcuffs though so maybe that’s a vibe I enjoy that others don’t as much as I never hear that spoken about either
