Why not?

Because it bears no resemblance to anything else Radiohead has done.

So what? The exact same line-up recorded a debut 2(!) years before "The Bends". Not like everything's changed in between, it was just a different sound.

it's just that radiohead weren't radiohead yet when they recorded pablo. i mean it's still officially a radiohead album but it has no identity tbh

@Artuma
Well, that's their fault. It is still them, who fucked that up (although PH isn't even bad). I mean, it doesn't work the other way round either. If they would turn all crappy now and lose everything that made them them it would still be a Radiohead record.

The first and last few songs on Pablo Honey are great, it's around 3/3.5 for me. Even if it's not as good as The Bends or OK Computer it still fits with that trilogy of albums in the 90s before they played the more experimental rock and electronica style of their 00's albums.

I think I like Pablo Honey a lot more than most fans, it's no lower than 3/3.5 range for me and the first and last songs are great [2]
One of the few albums where opener and closer are the best tracks

They were still nobodies when they recorded The Bends

yeah but they had found their own sound when they recorded it. which wasn't the case on pablo
"One of the few albums where opener and closer are the best tracks"
one of the few?

But that happens with most bands. They were still "finding their sound" during Kid A anyway.

tbh they're still finding their sound
like literally theres no 2 radiohead albums that sound the same
maybe besides kid a/amnesiac

Couldn't name many. Mostly cause I don't get off that much on closers like most other people do. Being a statistics freak, I actually once looked through all my albums and where my fav tracks are and it turned out only about 5% are closers. It was the worst more often

"tbh they're still finding their sound"
their sound has been easily recognizable since the bends. of course, they made some drastic changes on kid a and they haven't done the same album twice but if it wasn't for thom's voice i couldn't tell if the band playing on pablo is radiohead, which can't be said about their other albums
"Being a statistics freak, I actually once looked through all my albums and where my fav tracks are and it turned out only about 5% are closers. It was the worst more often"
weird. on quite a lot of my fave albums the closer and the opener are the best tracks

Opener yes, closer no. Actually The Tourist is for example my least fav on OKC
And there's no way you could tell that Kid A and The Bends come from the same guys if it weren't for Thom's whining

If you gave someone instrumental versions of Optimistic and 2+2=5 to listen to and they didn't know RH, I'm pretty certain they'd say they were separate bands.
