Got Dayum, after a decade of heavy Radiohead fandom this album has grown on more than any other album of theirs
I’ve mainly viewed subterranean, exit music, you and who’s army, “whatever kid a song of the month”, etc…. As their best song at some point, now I firmly feel that Weird Fishes is their absolute masterpiece
(this subjective Radiohead ranking is subjective to change (again))

It’s pretty funny to see sput users argue over which RH album is far superior than the rest, even the most obscure releases like amnesiac, cuz in reality they “all” are the best part of their discography at some point in our listening journey
Obv being very generalized with my statement

Weird Fishes is indeed one of their very best, absolutely stunning with such beautiful guitars.

It’s impossible for me to pick a favorite track from this. Weird fishes has that fluid guitar magic talons mentions. The percussion/rhythm driving Reckoner rattles me and the outro is eternally warring with bizarre love triangle for my fav outro in general. And I fucking love Bodysnatchers. Prob my fav 21st century Yorke rocker tbh
This record’s an ABSOLUTE UNIT

It would be so interesting to see how any of the members “propose” a new song to the other members, when it’s a piece that they’ve mostly developed alone. Like with Weird Fishes, how does Greenwood explain the nuances of the guitar melodies dancing and leading the entirety of the song (along with vocals), which requires the percussion to be an absolute metronome that doesn’t change tempo virtually the entire song
Like that percussion for Weird Fishes doesn’t sound artistically appealing off the cuff but I’d imagine they’ve hit the point where they roll with any songwriting suggestions, at least trying it out until the composition has been fully realized

when this first came out I think I felt like it was too immediate or something - like all the tricks & cool things you'd normally need to take a few listens for in their other albums were just kinda upfront and discoverable on first listen. i gotta say though over the years i've def pulled some things that make me like certain tracks more (the synth on Bodysnatchers for example just does it for me) which maybe hadn't had that impact before
fav overall from this is usually All I Need, provided we're not dipping into disk 2

Well, I see you haven't rated The Smile's album, and that's likely the closest we're getting to a Radiohead album any time soon.
