Outstanding album.

The most subtle and musically dense thing the band has done.

4.9 and 3 quarters.

It's not that far behind 'In Rainbows', both lack that '90s quality 'Ok Computer' had but otherwise are hard to fault

This has its moments but is far from their best.

I love this album and still think it's a top 4 Radiohead album. OK Comp and Kid A are the top 2 in whatever order, but I think In Rainbows slightly edges this. Regardless they're all near perfect albums.

One thing I really enjoy about this LP more than the previous couple are the lyrics. Around the time of The Eraser, Thom stopped singing so much about unborn chicken voices, black-eyed angels, and impending Ice Ages, and started to get a little... generic with some of his lines?

"I've got to ask, are you only being nice because you want something?"

"You used to be alright, what happened?"

"Just as you write my number down, just as the drinks arrive"

"I don't wanna be your friend, I just wanna be your lover"

"I'm such a tease and you're such a flirt"

The above lyrics are fine, but they're so conversational. It was great to hear Thom return to his stranger lyrical tendencies here, with imagery like "a ten ton head of wet sand." Less of the conversational shoulder-shrugging, more of the crackling pigskin please

In Rainbows is lyrically weakest of their great albums. TKOL has plenty of waffle, but some lovely and colourful stuff too, like on Bloom/Lotus Flower/Separator

I would argue that KID A is lyrically their weakest, almost by design.

Optimistic is a lyrical force though
