yeah i guess all floyd is the daddest rock possible but i feel like animals is full prog and feels more, uh, i guess pretentious is the word prog haters use with this style of album even though its not the word choice id use. just feels more stripped down of fun and is more of a 'think piece' against capitalism in the form of three 15 minute epics. their better stuff just has more fun with it

@TheSpaceMan Pink Floyd is dad rock in the sense that they're popular among dads, but I think their sound is pretty different from the typical sound people associate with the term dad rock. Dad rock to me is like Old Time Rock & Roll or Aerosmith or some shit like that

Dad rock misconceptions are as old as dad rock.

Dad rock is music that your dad listened to end of. It has further connotations of dinosaur bands playing the same stadium circuit and churning out the same stuff enjoyed by the same fan type but ultimately it’s bands your dad listened to.

I was adopted so my barometer for that terminology is a bit off

This is significantly shorter thus better than The Wall by default.

But yeah ‘Dad rock’ is a ridiculous term and changes exponentially according to one’s individual experiences, I have virtually no useful first-hand perspective, or at least that perspective has now been diluted/rendered irrelevant. It’d be more accurate to use my mum as a barometer instead.

If I was forced to select a ‘type’ of music to represent this phrase I’d actually pick milquetoast stadium ‘rock’ shite like The Stereophonics. My actual dad was born in the early 60s and couldn’t give a rat’s ass about that band, which goes to show how irrelevant the term is. All about perspective.

Not sure why this comment is so long...

Alternatively... WYWH >
