lyrics are the most important part of music when they're present tbh

Hey I don’t care about lyrics at all either. It’s not impossible to not care about lyrics. Even with hip hop, I mostly jam to the beat. Now, if a vocal pattern or person’s voice in general sounds captivating or something, (which is the case with Kendrick’s delivery imo) yeah I’ll pay attention to what’s being said, but otherwise nah. But I completely understand someone not caring about lyrics. Don’t get how someone wouldn’t understand

Facebook comment sections on music are the most eye-opening
Even moreso than YouTube if you believe it

Just the two minute thing was one of the dumbest things I’ve heard, but totally possible to enjoy music without vocals, and it’s only the most important when present if the artist wants it to. However, the argument that hip hop and grandiose musicianship shouldn’t combine is also a bit crazy to me. Not many do it well, but Kendrick nails that shit

kendrick did it fine

I'm inclined to agree with Alexander here, lyrics are the last thing I care about in music however not to the extent they feel.

no, but being honest: i only pay attention to them if they're either the focus of the album, or if i can't avoid them
but i've always believed they're an opportunity to excel and make the album stand out, i.e. trespassers william, björk, ani difranco, hip hop with good rappers, etc

You can’t just avoid lyrics tho. It’s part of the experience.

in black metal and mumble rap lyrics can be avoided entirely
|
| |
yeah that’s true. Not the same as saying lyrics within a context that they are supposed to be not ignored, should be ignored tho.

"Because sometimes I do like it, that's a good enough reason for me to listen to a genre. And even then, sometimes I just want to listen to something, even if I don't like it."
Why the shit would you listen to something you don't like
"Alright, it doesn't HAVE to be short songs, but if hip hop artists want to make songs longer than what I said, it'd be a good idea to make the music more interesting."
"And you're wrong, you can develop musical ideas quite well in two minutes (or less), hell, most hip hop developes most of its ideas in that ammount of time, the rest is used for "lyrical development""
Because it's a lyric based genre you fucking idiot. Are those lyrics not part of the ideas? If hip hop was limited to 2 minutes you'd get one verse in and it wouldn't leave any amount of satisfaction or thought provocation. It would feel unfinished and sloppy. There would be no point in even doing it.

There is absolutely no point at all to listen to hip hop that isn't instrumental if you don't care about the lyrics.
