There's more repetition on the riffs making them instantly more cohesive and understandable, this is more enjoyable to me than the overly convoluted writing from before, the song actually sticks as result without the need of gazillion replays

do yall think of them first as a technical death metal band or like a post death metal band? I guess I notice the post metal elements before the technicality but it's neat that you can describe them as either and it completely uncontroversially fits. Probably a couple other tags that fit totally fine too.

I agree, I hear the tech and the post, though I think the latter is mostly because the atmosphere is just so damn thick and that's usually a defining characteristic of post-anything.



And I'm all for them getting a bit less "labyrinthine" with the riffs too. They did that for years, Shrines being probably the best expression of that. I don't want the exact same album over and over again but it's definitely tricky to evolve without not sounding at all like yourself as a band anymore. These guys seems to be handling it really well.
