This album is certainly more wispy and muted than recent RH standards, but I like that about it. All of the sounds and emotions here have a vast chiaroscuro landscape to echo in, enriching them. Like Spirit of Eden.
But I guess this is just grey and boring to some people and that's okay

Given that it would be ridiculously hard to better this as a sign off I wonder if Radiohead have one last magnificent album in them?
The only way forward would be a perplexing double album of all new material encompassing proper rock numbers, bollocks bleepy bits and minimal orchestral sections which left everyone scratching their heads.

Glad you're enjoying your Radiohead deep dive buddy. Definitely check out Amnesiac and The King Of Limbs next. Amnesiac is quite similar to Kid A and dates to the same sessions, but has a bit more of the rock instrumentation and orchestral flourishes like this one.
TKOL, however, is a very different beast. If this is possibly their most simplified record, then TKOL is what I'd call their densest. Layers upon layers of fidgeting polyrhythms ;) at least for the first 5 tracks.

TKOL is essential, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Yeah, it’s essentially their worst.

@Pickle nice work, you have now listened to almost all the essential Radiohead: Kid A is your next listen.
OK Computer, Kid A, In Rainbows and this are far and away my favorites by them. Everything else is fine ... its just like bonus material.

I need to revisit KOL tbh, was pretty dismissive of it but I'd probably like it now.

TKOL is better than at least 3 other Rh albums (probably 4)

Yeah I meant that TKOL is better than this. Also better than The Bends, HTTF, Pablo (obvs). Probably Amnesiac as well, although that’s a lot closer.

TKOL has probably jumped into my top 4 Radiohead albums at this point
This one on the other hand I could probably bump down to a 3 if I wanted to. It's fine but I never really have any urge to come back to it
